Nomination to “best barbershop album in 2009″

Q-tones album “Look At Us Now” was nominated by the well known a capella organization CARA (www.cara.org) in the category ”best barbershop album 2009″. The album is up against High Definition´s “Entertainment” and the Masters of Harmony´s ”Portrait”, two very fine albums from great groups. On April 1 the winners will be announced. Q-tones is very happy for the nomination and we also feel this is a formal recognition that the album is very well produced and contains a nice mix of barbershop music.

Q-tones back home from first International experience

After two intense weeks in the Los Angeles area Q-tones are back in Sweden again. The trip included visits at arranger RubyRhea´s and gold medal quartetter Alan Gordon and his wife´s homes. Totally awesome experiences!
The convention week included appearances at the Larry Ajer Show, the World Harmony Dinner Show and certainly the Quartet Quarter Final.
We scored an 76.3 average score and placed 47th in the contest, which we were not really content with - but the competiton was extremely hard and we didn´t have our best day “at the job”. But we´re aiming for next year when we hope to have come further as a quartet and will be able raise our marks.
The fall will now be spent on rehearsing completely new material, custom made for the quartet, which will be very exciting! Look out for new clips to be published here later on.

The draw for International has been made

… and Q-tones is singing as group no. 26 out of 52 groups, so right in the middle. A good number. Our fellow Swedes in Absolut starts as no. 15 and Ringmasters as no. 48.

Q-Tones qualified for World Championships

This past weekend, April 24-26, we competed in SNOBS annual championships. Our goal was to qualify for the International Contest later this year. After a bumpy first day we held the 3rd spot with a 75,2 average. Not good enough to qualify, but very close. So our Final package with “If I Had My Way” and “I Wanna Be Around” had to be good enough to raise our scores. A pretty solid performance which averaged 77,5 bumped us up to a total average of 76,35 which was 0,35 above the limit :). We finished third overall, missing the silver medals with just 1,0…. So now the journey begins to work towards the REAL contest in California. Here we go!

Snobs and Rix FM

On Thursday April 23 we are going to Stockholm for the SNOBS Nordic Championships. Our goal is to score above 76,0 - so we can go to the International contest in Anaheim, California later this summer. Q-tones 5th best in Europe!

We´re just back home again after our trip to Holland, where we took part in the European Barbershop Championships. We scored well, 76.8 and placed 5th in the quartet contest. A very close run between 2nd placed q’tet and 6th placed q’tet. Ringmasters, the winning quartet, were in a league of their own. However, not bad, 5th best quartet in Europe… and still moving up! Thanks for all nice comments and encouragement!
